Welcome back! It’s day 3 of Anthropolgie Knock Off week and I am so thrilled you are here. Have you been checking out the awesome knock off projects from my co-hostesses? If you haven’t, you are missing out! At the end of this post you can see photos of their Tuesday projects, which you can click on to head over to their blogs. You will love what they have come up with.
Yesterday, I shared with you how I made fun and functional stacking trays for over $100 less than the Anthropologie version and on Sunday, I showed you how I made a knock off version of the Anthropologie reclaimed wood letter for $20 less than the original!
Well today, I am here to share with you how I made these adorable candied letter desk clips that sell at Anthropologie for $14.00 each. I made mine for less than $ 2.50 each. Can you believe it? Read on to learn how to complete this knock off project for yourself.
Materials needed for 1 Candied Letter Desk Clip:
- The lid from your wooden box that I used for yesterday’s project. If you didn’t buy a box, any thin piece of wood would work.
- Wooden letter {I ordered my from Craft Cuts}
- Utility knife
- Cutting board
- Wood stain
- Paper towel
- Washi tape
- Hot glue gun
- Clothes pins {3 per clip}
- Speed square {or a ruler}
Steps to make 1 Candied Letter Desk Clip:
1) If you are using the lid from yesterday’s project, you will have to remove the sides of the lid first. I did this by running my utility knife along the joints. The sides came off easily.
2) Next, stain your letter, using a damp cloth to wipe the wood down first so that it will accept the stain more easily.
3) Use washi tape to create whatever pattern you like on your letter, being sure to leave some wood exposed.
4) Now you need to determine what size to cut your wood pieces. I don't like to measure :) I recommend that you place your letter on top of the stained wood piece and mark the width and length of your letter by scoring the wood piece with your utility knife.
5) Using the score marks as your guide for the width and length measurements, use your speed square and utility knife to cut out the wood piece to the size of your letter. Once you have one piece fully cut out, you can use that piece as your template to cut the remaining piece. Each clip requires two pieces of wood.
6) Stain your cut out pieces of wood {remember to wipe them down with a damp cloth first}.
7) Hot glue your letter onto the top piece of wood.
8) Hot glue 3 clothes pins onto the bottom piece of wood.
9) Finally, hot glue the top piece of wood onto the top of the clothes pins.
Voila! That’s it! How friggin cute are these? And at a fraction of the cost of the inspiration Anthropologie version!
I hope to see you back tomorrow when I will show you how I made a knock off version of Anthropologie's fabulous ceramic chalkboard! Before you head out, check out the awesome projects from my super talented blogger friends. Just click on the photos to go directly to their blogs for full details!
