Big Boy Room Reveal

WHAT A FABULOUS BOY'S ROOM! Check out this full boy's room reveal by Designer Trapped in a Lawyer's Body.

HAPPY MONDAY, FRIENDS!  I am not usually excited about Mondays, since it means my weekend has come to an end, but today I am excited because I get to share with you this EPIC big boy room reveal that I designed for my good friend, Raquel!  Raquel put all her faith in me {FUN!} to design her son's “big boy” room from 5 1/2 hours away.  Yep, we were in a long-distance design relationship.  And don't let anyone tell you such a long-distance design relationship can't work, because it worked fabulously!

Now, let me remind you with the e-Design board that I came up with for the room.  This was our jumping off point.

THIS IS AWESOME! Enter to win a free e-design consultation from Designer Trapped in a Lawyer's Body in this New Year, New Room Giveaway!Well, folks, I was lucky enough to make the trip up to Raquel's neck of the woods earlier this month to meet my dearest friend's new baby {who was BEYOND adorable} and was able to help Raquel install the room live and in person.  It was awesome.  I am going to stop blabbing now and share with you a ton of photos, so that you can see how this e-Design came to life!

DRUMROLL PLEASE….

TA DA!!!!  I love it!  I know you are going to fall in love with tons of things in this room and want to know where you can buy them yourself–don't worry, there is a source list at the end of the post :)  For now, just enjoy the photos.

This gorgeous Maureen Bookcase from One Kings Lane is one of my favorite things in the room.  It's crafted from durable teak wood pieces that are pressed together for the most unique look I have ever seen.  This piece was an investment and will probably remain in Raquel's family forever–she and her husband will gladly use it in another room some day!

Now, let's move on to the art in the room.  The HUGE engineer print is awesome, isn't it?  Raquel had an idea to take a photograph of a street sign that bears her son's name, Fletcher, to hang in the room.  I loved the idea and suggested that we go BIG with it.  Bigger is better, right?!  So, Raquel took the photo and we had it blown up to a 48 x 36 inch engineer print for $6.00.  We then mounted it on foam core and framed it out {tutorial on that frame coming soon}.  It makes a huge impact in the room for very little money.

I also ADORE the vintage racing posters in the room.  Fletcher LOVES cars, but we wanted to avoid “cartoony” art, so I was thrilled to find these stunning prints on Amazon for $12.00 each.  With the addition of some simple frames, they are absolutely perfect in the room.

The other “art” in the room is 3 dimensional and it is fabulous.  I found this gorgeous antique-style milk crate on Amazon and we hung it on the wall to display matchbox cars!  How easy and fun is that?!

And see that giant “F” beside it?!  Isn't it PERFECT?  I found it at Hobby Lobby on clearance for $15.00.  Score.  It has the most fabulous faux-rust detail on it.

Now we have to talk about that BED.  Another awesome purchase from One Kings Lane.  The simple shape and nailhead details make it super masculine and sophisticated.  This is a bed that Fletcher can use until he leaves for college.  All you have to do is change out the bedding {but for now, the little guy loves his adorable car sheets from Pottery Barn Kids}!

And we can't leave out the awesome herringbone rug from Urban Outfitters and the DIY lamp that we made with gorgeous fabric from Online Fabric Store {you can read all about how I made one for my own house here}!  This room is a good example of how to mix patterns successfully without it being overwhelming.  The patterns in this room work well together because they are all predominately navy blue and aren't placed too closely together.  Plus, the beautiful, neural gray walls help balance out the pattern and color in the room.

Last, but certainly not least, let's talk about the window hardware and panels, which are the items in the room that put us a tad over budget {but it was worth it, right?!}  The cast iron curtain rods are stunning in their simplicity.  And the panels themselves are simple, but add so much depth to the room.  The windows were larger than I remembered when we planned the room, and we wound up having to order some extra panels to balance the windows and provide full coverage.  The end result is functional and beautiful.

WHEW!  That was a lot of photos, huh?  What is your favorite part of the room?  I still can't decide what my favorite part is.  It changes every day.  I just know that I love it all.  Most importantly, Fletcher loves it.  Now, as promised, here is the source list for the room:

I love the room! I see that the posters are 20×30. What size frame did you use?

    • Tasha A. says:

Hi Amy! There’s a link to the exact frames we used in the source list at the end of the post–they were 24 x 36 inches. We did have to trim some of the white around the prints off before placing them in the frames. I hope that helps!

  5. I love this room! I use these colors in one of my boys room, the other boy’s is navy and red. Your style is very similar to mine. I bet Fletcher just loves his new space! I love that crate idea as a display – I’ll have to be on the lookout for something like that.

  7. Brittany says:

I love this so much!!! The colors are just amazing- little boy but something he can grow into. Can you tell me where you got the sheets? I found the amazing bedding at pottery barn but looking for sheets like that!

    Thanks for the inspiration!

What a fantastic room! Love everything about it but the headboard is probably my favorite. And the racing posters! Love it!

  9. I’ve always said that of all the bloggers, I feel you and I have the most similar style – but the fact that I have those curtain rods in my cart right now just proved it! Being rooted in French design has nothing to do it with it, I’m sure. :-) Great job!

  10. Tasha, that’s a beautiful boys room you’ve designed. Wow. Beautiful and boy-ish: how it all looks great together. Because it’s so gorgeous, I’d love it if you’d come link it up with us at our linky party today. Will you?

  11. I love the street sign photograph above the bed, what a great idea to photograph a street sign that bears his name! Genius!

  12. Kathryn A. Agruso says:

Tasha: What a fabulous and beautiful design for Fletcher’s room. He is a lucky boy and I’m sure he’s proud of his room and loving it. I love the idea for the cars. Paul, Jr. loved all his cars when he is young and I’m sure he would have loved a holder like that. Good luck on your new venture!!

  13. Cindy says:

Did an amazing job. Look forward to more of your eDesigns!!!!

  14. Mindy says:

This is gorgeous. A perfect blend of colors and pattern, vibrancy and call.
