Hello, DTLB readers and friends! I'm Bre and I blog at Average But Inspired, where I share creative inspiration for regular people, like myself, who want to live a beautiful life while on a budget. I am so excited to be here today for my second contributor post!
You may remember the first post I shared on DTLB, where I taught you how to upcycle old toy containers into vertical succulent gardens. Today I'm back with another low-cost, high-impact project that is the perfect way to fill any blank wall in your home and help ignite your wanderlust – Easy DIY Travel Quote Map Art!
This project came about as part of a vintage airplane room makeover that I did for my three-year-old son. I wanted a cool, vintage map to hang, but I found that they were super expensive! Forget that – I found a way to get the look for less with some of the most basic supplies around.
Materials for DIY Travel Quote Map Art
- Map of your choice (Since maps can be expensive, I used this wrapping paper that looks like a vintage map!)
- Two, 1/2″ square wooden dowels
- Double-sided 1/2″ foam mounting tape
- Twine, yarn, or string
- Cardstock or sticker letters
- Non-Acidic Glue (if using cardstock letters)

Next, remove the backing from the double-sided foam mounting tape and apply it to the top and bottom edges of the map.
Now, press your dowels onto the tape and push down firmly. Now tie some twine, yarn, or other type of string around the ends of the top dowel to make a hanger for your map.
Next, figure out where you want your quote to go on the map. I used card stock letters that I cut with a paper cutting machine, so I was able to move them around and get my placement just how I wanted it. If you use stickers, you might want to mark your letter placement with a ruler and chalk so that it can easily be erased once you apply your letters. Once you have everything how you want it, get to work gluing or sticking the letters onto the map!
Let everything dry, and then hang and enjoy!
This is such a quick and easy project, and one that can be personalized with any quote that speaks to you! If you do a Google search for travel-related quotes, I guarantee you'll find something that you love.
