Decorating Tips

These handy products and Christmas decor storage tips will help you put away your holiday this year so that it's EASY to use again next year!

Do you ever dread decorating for Christmas because you know your Christmas decorations are a total mess? Instead of looking forward to decorating for the holidays, do you dread going up to your attic or down to your basement to get your bins of Christmas decor because you know it will be a jumbled mess that you have to sort through?

Don't set yourself for this scenario again next year! All it takes is a few helpful products and a little bit of time to store your Christmas decor in an organized and efficient way so that you can decorate next year with ease!

How do I know this? Well, a couple of years ago I was chatting with a friend about how much she was dreading decorating for Christmas. She talked about how long it was going to take her and she just couldn't muster up the energy to do it. I was legitimately confused. Why would Christmas decorating take more than a day???

The more we talked about it the more I realized that the reason my family can easily decorate in a day is that our Christmas decor is put away in such an organized way, that taking it out to decorate is super, super fast and simple.

Read on to learn about the Christmas decor storage solutions that work like a charm for us! And this year with the help of The Container Store we’ve added a few new incredible products that will help protect all the decorations that we love so much and make our decorating next year even easier!

I am honored to be a brand ambassador for The Container Store!

My Top 4 Christmas Decor Storage Solutions

Solution #1: Good ornament storage.

I don't know about you, but it has taken me almost 20 years to collect the ornaments I have. And while we have purchased shatterproof ornaments since we had kids, we have lots and lots of beautiful glass ornaments. And of course, they are my favorites. In the past, we've stored our fragile ornaments in plastic shoe boxes that we then put in larger bins, but there was a whole lot of wasted space with that system.

So I'm VERY excited about our new ornament storage trays  from The Container Store that fit perfectly in these storage boxes. We decided to use the trays for our most delicate and treasured ornaments, but we also grabbed some of these ornament storage boxes for the rest of our glass ornaments. No more wasted space and because all the storage is clear it's easy to see exactly what ornaments are in each bin, which will make decorating our tree next year even quicker.

Solution #2: Proper wreath storage.

This is the first year we are using proper wreath storage. We had a designated spot in our attic to hang wreaths, but the red wood curl wreath that I love so much was getting damaged even when we were as careful as possible with it. Now I feel like I really don't have to worry about it anymore with it safe and sound in this wreath box.

Solution #3: Clear storage bins.

We've always used storage bins to store like items with like items, and that alone was pretty effective. But, we always used solid color storage bins so we couldn't see what was inside of them before opening them up. Now I know that what's even MORE effective is using clear storage binsNext year we won't even have to open each bin to see exactly what is inside. We used these clear bins to store things like our nutcrackers and bottle brush trees.

Solution #4: Open storage bins.

Do you feel a bit confused by this one? Using open storage bins for some items may seem counterintuitive. BUT they are perfect for storing things like ribbon and scarves that we use at Christmas, but that we also may want easily accessible so we can use them for other celebrations during the year. We have used these canvas bins from The Container Store for years (you can see some of them here in our linen closet) in a variety of sizes. They are a personal favorite of mine.

There you have it! Those are my top 4 tips for Christmas decor storage that makes sense and will make your life easier when you go to decorate next year! I promise you, taking the time to store your Christmas decor in an organized and sensible way will make such a difference in how you feel about decorating each year.
