I get a lot of requests to help people pick out furniture, which is actually kind of fun :) But since I am kind of known for my love of color, many people are surprised by the upholstery colors that I turn to for big furniture purchases. Take for example a sofa. They can be expensive, so they need to last. And in my opinion, the best sofa color for design flexibility is a NEUTRAL COLOR.
Gasp! I know. Are you shocked?! Here's the thing. When you design a room with a neutral sofa, that sofa will still work 5 or 10 years down the road when you want to completely change your color palette or when you overall design aesthetic has changed. I've already changed the look of my family room since purchasing our neutral love seat a few years ago (you can read all about how I keep it looking new here). It's fantastic that I don't feel like I need to design an entire room around a piece of furniture! This post contains affiliate links for your convenience. To prove my point that the best sofa color is a neutral one (or at least drive the point home), I chose one couch and styled it 3 different ways. The couch I chose to style for this post is not only gorgeous, but it's totally affordable. In fact, right now it's on sale for less than $500. Don't believe me? Go check it out for yourself. It's part of the Overstock.com anniversary sale that is going on now through October 17th. Click here to check out this sofa.
Now, check out how the SAME NEUTRAL COUCH looks great with different rugs, coffee tables and throw pillows. You can find source lists for each of the looks at the end of the post.
