Craft Room REVEAL full of awesome craft room ideas!
Last Updated on March 3, 2022
I have been working hard on my home office and craft room. Being selected as a participant in the Leviton Renu Challenge lit a fire under me to get it done! I have had so many awesome craft room ideas for so many years. It's exciting to see them come to fruition.
Hopefully you all saw my mood board inspiration for this room. I set out to create a neutral shell for the room, that would allow the jewel tones and metallics in the room to really pop. So, I painted the room a soft gray color and added a stunning black and cream rug to the floor. With my foundation in place, I got to work adding pops of color and implementing all of my craft room storage ideas, which you can see for yourself in just a minute.

A quick word about my color palette. I wanted a neutral backdrop that would serve as a blank slate for my creative ideas. Then, the pops of color provide a high energy for the room, which will come in handy for keeping my creative juices flowing :)
I will warn you that this post is photo heavy. There will be tons of tutorials that stem from this room, so for now, just sit back, relax and enjoy the photos :) The good news for now is that there is a source list at the end of the post. If you see something you like, you can find out exactly where we bought it OR how we created it ourselves!
Now, let's take a look at the before photos again {these photos show the remnants of our twin girls' nursery}. This post contains some affiliate links. You can read my full disclosure policy here.
And now, the glorious after! This is the view when you walk in the room.
Another full view of the room from a different angle.
And here are some more detailed views of my desk area. I LOVE my desk. You will learn more about it in a future post {and see how two separate desks used in conjunction with each other give me loads of flexibility}, but for now know that I purchased the components at Ikea and spray painted the fabulous hairpin legs with gold metallic paint. So happy with how it turned out!
One of my favorite touches in the room is the art that I made for the room {the tutorial for the bird art can be found here and the tutorial for the Silhouette sketch pen quote art can be found here}. The bird art has special meaning to me, as does the quote you see on one of them. It's a quote from an Erin Hanson poem. The full short poem by Erin Hanson is:
“There is freedom waiting for you,
On the breezes of the sky,
And you ask “What if I fall?”
Oh but my darling,
What if you fly?”
For reasons I won't bore you with now, this quote speaks to me more than you could ever imagine. So I knew I had to have it in my home office/craft room and bird images go along with it perfectly. I am beyond inspired by Erin's words and love that I have them hanging on my wall, directly across my desk so I can glance up and see them whenever I need some motivation.
I also love the fabulous piece of furniture that the bird prints are hanging above. It's a special piece that was given to us by Joe's family. We used it in our girls' nursery, but I gave it a bold, graphic paint job before putting it in my craft room. You can see the full tutorial here. It provides fabulous storage for ribbon, paper and other craft supplies.
And there are no words for how much I love this piece against the gorgeous rug from Rug USA.
I was able to incorporate another very special piece into my home office/craft room–my grandmother's sewing cabinet. It was passed on to my mom and she gave it to me many years ago. It's full of thread used by both my grandmother, my mom and now me. It's a mess, but I kind of love it that way. I hope now that I have a dedicated craft room, I will start sewing more.
And now, I have to take a moment to talk about the awesome Leviton Renu devices and explain my color choice. I chose of “White on White” Renu outlets and switches. I originally selected “Gold Coast White” hoping they would pick up on the gold accents in the room, but they were a bit more almond than I had hope for. In the end, I am THRILLED with the White on White color. I love {and I mean LOVE} that they are not shiny–shiny switches show fingerprints! They blend nicely into the wall and don't detract from all the colorful accents in the room. And if I ever do want to change the color, I can do it in a matter of seconds. I am telling you, these Renu devices are awesome. You can appreciate how they blend into the background in these photos.
Isn't that fabric you see STUNNING?! I can't wait to share with you how I used it on my chair {you won't believe it} and how I added a band of fabric to my plain Ikea curtains. I just love it! I used a coordinating fabric to add “DIY SUPPLIES” to the curtains on that now close off the closet.
Now, what craft room would be complete without FABULOUS craft room storage?! I love this wall storage that I got from Ikea. It's intended for use in kitchens, but it's perfect for crafts. I painted the silver rails gold and voila…perfection!
I added some personal touches, like the “BE BOLD” printable from the awesome Prints by Poppy Mae Etsy shop. I also added some family photos so I can feel like I am surrounded by the people I love most when I am crafting away. I also added some cork tiles {some covered in fabric, some not} so that I can pin up ideas from magazines, etc. I also added my ceramic chalkboard that I made some time back to jot important notes down. I adore how this gallery/storage wall came together.
And I have to say a little bit about the lighting fixture. I have wanted this quirky light fixture from Ikea for a long time, but I never had a room that I felt it would work in. Well, I think a craft room is a PERFECT room for a bit of whimsy and quirk, so I went for it and am so glad I did!
It was so fun adding gold touches to the room. I spray painted an old lamp that I had and found these fabulous gold scissors and stapler at Target {they are part of the fabulous Nate Berkus line}.
Whew! That's a lot of photos, huh? I hope they give you a flavor for what I have done with the room. What do you think? Is this a room you could craft in?

Love it all but especially THAT curtain! Did you ever do a tutorial on THAT? I check back occasionally hoping to find it! Thanks!
Oh Patty I am sorry, I never did a post on it! I used my silhouette and fabric fuse. Thanks for reading!
I noticed that you linked one size table top to the post, but it looks like you have two sizes to your desk. Can you clarify as to which sizes you used to make your desk? The office looks wonderful!
Hi Ashley! Thank you :) I used the 47 1/4×23 5/8 ” and the 39 3/8×23 5/8 ” sizes.
Just found you via Pinterest (Mod Podge chair) and loving your new office space. I’m considering the Ikea fixture but have worried about the amount of light and if the “fun shadows” are a concern in a working space.
Thanks so much, Mandy! I actually recently replaced the Ikea light, though I loved it so much. It did not let off enough light. You can check out my new light here: https://designertrapped.com/2015/02/diy-pendant-light.html
I am really impressed with this redo. I love how you made the window look larger by expanding the curtain across the whole wall. And I your color palate is great. Well done.

Thanks so much, Tara!
Hi Tasha-
I love your new crafting room! I’m totally smitten. Love the fabric you used for the curtains and chair!
Could you tell me what gold spray paint you used? I’ve been wanting one that isn’t too brassy looking.
Love the room… but am so curious to see behind the curtains… always looking for inspiration on how to wrangle all the miscellaneous supplies and projects in a way I can always find things! Hope that reveal is coming soon!
Oh don’t worry, Beth! That post will be coming in a few weeks :) Thanks so much for checking out the details of my room!
Hi Tasha! Just wanted to pop by and say thankyou for using my quote on your wall! Your entire room is gorgeous and I’m in love with those little tin pots hanging on the wall!
x Erin
OMG! Erin, I cannot tell you how completely awe struck I am that you stopped by my blog AND took the time to comment. Thank you! Your poem is so, so beautiful and is a HUGE inspiration to me at the moment. So THANK YOU for writing it and sharing it with the world!
Oh my! Your craft room is lovely. I don’t think I can compete with this. You did a fabulous job putting it together.
Thank you Glenna!
Love this! You did a fantastic job! You have a great eye for mixing prints. I get nervous with more than one bold thing. This is awesome though. So inspiring. :)
Thanks so much, Anna! I am suddenly more adventurous when mixing patterns and now I am addicted! You should try it :)
I think your room is just about perfect. The balance of color and fabric prints and utility … I love it all.
I also love the way you presented the reveal on the page with the photos and text and all the links on the bottom of the page. It is so easy to enjoy and reference this way and I really love it. From a reader’s point of view this is a great presentation. Thank you. I hope that other bloggers might follow your lead!
Awww, thanks so much, Janet! Your comment made my week!
So chic and fun! I love the fabric on that chair! Can’t wait for the tutorial on that one.
Thank you, Jennifer! I had no idea if the fabric on my chair would work out, but it worked PERFECTLY. Tutorial coming soon!
Your room is fantastic, Tasha! I adore that chair, and the quote from the poem is so perfect. I would love to have a space like that for myself!
Thanks so much Bre! I am loving it so far. I am beyond lucky that we have an extra room for me to use. Now, when my twin girls decide they want separate bedrooms, I will have to relocate :( But, hopefully we are many years away from that happening!
The whole space looks great, but those gold hairpin legs are to die for! Great job!
Thanks so much, Melissa! Aren’t those legs great?! I just spray painted them gold and fell in love :)
It looks amazing and so inviting! Super Job! I have been in love with that light fixture for a while, great choice, it is such an eye grabber!
Thanks so much, Mindi!
Such a great space to craft in!
Thanks, Amy! I love it and it’s amazing how much more productive I am with everything in one, organized room :)
That dresser is a lot like my DIY gold mouse pad, so naturally, I love it ;) Great minds!
Loving all the gold accents in this room!
Oh, I LOVE your gold mouse pad. I have had a crush on it for a while. You’re right–they are similar. We are clearly both design geniuses :) Thanks, Amy!
Wow, it turned out AMAZING!!!! I love the clean lines and pops of color – that fabric that you used for the chair/curtains/wording is perfect!! Great job, thats a total win. :)
Hi Ashley! Thanks so much. I am so, so happy with how it all turned out.
Where did you get the storage bins in the dresser?
Hi Amber. I got those at Ikea several years ago, but I am pretty sure they are still available.
Can I come over to play?! This room looks seriously amazing. What a fun creative place for you to do all your sewing and crafting without little hands getting into all your stuff! I have a craft room but I share it with my little boys. Now I wish I had my own!
P.S. LOVE the whimsical light fixture!!
Of course, Carrie! You can come over any time. Thanks so much for the compliment. I am so happy with how everything turned out.
I love this room!! You did a great job. that quote makes me SO HAPPY. Stunning job :-)
Thanks so much, Leigh Anne! Glad I am not the only one who loves that quote!
