Crafting is an awesome way to destress and stretching our creative muscles is important for our brains! Some people LOVE to do arts and crafts and try new things, and others may need a little push. Don't forget the people who may want to try something new but are less confident in their crafting abilities! This list has amazing ideas for experienced crafters to makers and crafters who are just getting started.
You'll see that I absolutely recommend a cutting machine for serious crafters. There are lots of different cutting machines to choose from, so check out my posts below if you need help choosing the perfect option.
A T-Shirt That Makes Them Feel Seen
Sometimes creative people just want to feel seen and have their uniqueness celebrated. This t-shirt is perfect for any creator, DIYer or maker, especially those who are neurodivergent and/or have ADHD (like me–I would LOVE this shirt)!
Paint Brush Cleaner, Holder & Organizer
If you have an artist in your life, you have undoubtedly seen paint brushes scattered everywhere and probably had your favorite mug turned into a paintbrush rinsing cup, lol. This affordable kit has three compartments for cleaning, soaking and scrubbing brushes as well as 16 different size holes to hold pretty much any size paint brush. I'm getting it for my daughter who loves to paint this year!
A Serious Glue Gun
I have had many craft glue guns in my 20+ years of DIYing. And I thought they were fine. But my husband bought me this glue gun as a gift a few years ago and WOW. It makes a world of difference! This glue gun still works well for small crafts but can be used for larger DIY projects that need a bit more gluing power behind them. Highly recommend!
Cutting Machine
This is going to sound dramatic, but I really do not know how I lived without my cutting machines. YOU GUYS! The things you can make with a cutting machine are endless. You are limited by your time and imagination that's it. I love mine. If you aren't sure which cutting machine is best, check out my unbiased review of Silhouette vs. Cricut (just click the search icon to find it).
Sewing Machine
I was gifted a sewing machine and it's definitely one of the best Christmas gifts I have ever gotten! I used to think I hated sewing, but it turns out I hated my old sewing machine. This is similar to all the things my machine does including a drop-in bobbin. I still won't say that I love sewing, but I do enjoy it now! This machine is a great price for the quality and is perfect for the DIYer or crafter who doesn't need a super fancy sewing machine.
Self-Healing Cutting Mat
This is one of those things that I didn't know I NEEDED until I got it! You cannot cut through it and the grid makes it easy to do straight lines. They come in a variety of sizes, but for the serious crafter, bigger is better! If you have a crafter in your life, she will love to add this to her stash of tools and supplies. I use mine all the time for cutting everything from art that I print at home to custom photo mats.
Craft Tool Kit
Give the gift of nice cutting tools! Having a sharp crafting or exacto knife that will cut easily is important for any project that calls for clean lines. Pair this kit with the self-healing mat above and you have a winning combo for a Christmas or birthday gift!
A Craftsy Class
Gift your loved one a year of online craft classes at Craftsy and they can choose from all kinds of things like sewing, baking, photography, painting, quilting, cake decorating, drawing and knitting. This is such an easy way to explore different areas of creativity for anyone that loves to try new things!
Craft Store Gift Cards
This may seem impersonal, but TRUST ME, any crafter will be head over heels happy to receive a gift card to their favorite craft store. Michaels and Joann are always a safe bet, because they can be used in-store or online. Letting your maker spend the afternoon shopping is probably the perfect gift!
Punch Needle Kit
My girls and I love punch needling! It is so relaxing and a great intro craft for someone who wants to create but isn't sure where to start. These cute kits come with everything to make a piece of punch needle art and there are lots of different designs.
Craft Storage
Crafty people tend to hoard supplies so giving them craft storage is always a great gift! I love storage like this cart because it rolls right to my work area and eliminates a lot of running around looking for supplies. When crafting time is limited I want it to be efficient and this storage option accomplishes that.
Yarn Tote
If you have a knitter or crocheter in your life that doesn't have a way to travel with their yarn, this is the perfect gift! It carries everything they need to keep their projects going and keep it organized. One of my twin girls is very into crochet and loves her yarn tote!
Cutting Machine Supplies
The owner of a cutting machine will never turn down or get bored with new supplies for their Cricut or Silhouette (be sure the supplies are compatible with their particular cutting machine). A selection of, vinyl, cardstock, iron-on transfers and foil-embossed papers will keep your crafter's heart happy.
Screen Printing Kit
Screen printing is a printing technique that lots of people use for t-shirts and art. Kits like this make it easy to screenprint now at home and it has everything you need to get started– a screen, tools and instructions.
Crafty Sweatshirt
Makers don't always need stuff, but they sure do love getting gifts that show you see and love their creativity! This cool and modern Creative Mood sweatshirt is sure to make a maker or crafter on your list smile!
Calligraphy Set
This calligraphy and hand lettering set for beginners is a great entry-level step into fancy handwriting without too much of an investment. Most creative people I know love to try new crafts and a kit like this makes that so easy!
Hand Lettering Book
One of my favorite crafting gifts to give is a book that teaches a new skill! This one gives you an education on the ins and outs of hand lettering and gets you started creating your own beautiful script. Add it to the calligraphy set above and you will make a handwriting-obsessed creator's day!
Embroidery Kit
A few years ago we bought both of our girls embroidery kits for their birthdays and they were a huge hit (with them and me, lol). Most creative people I know love to try new crafts, and kits make it so easy. These pieces come with everything including the step-by-step directions for a beautiful finished product. Not every craft project is worthy of hanging but this one looks fool-proof!
Apron for Crafting, Painting & Making
A craft apron is a perfect crafter's gift that they may not splurge on for themselves. These are functional and beautiful-I have one and love it! They are great for all types of hobbies–painting, sewing, baking, ceramics, cake decorating. The list is endless!
Craft Tote Bag
Have craft supplies, will travel! Help them take their craft room favorites on the road with a bag that holds their must-have supplies. This simple but mighty bag comes in lots of colors and patterns on Amazon, so there is one for every craft lover.
Knit a Beanie Hat Kit
Lots of people want to try knitting but knowing what needles to buy, which yarn to pick and how to start can be intimidating! Gift them a beginner knitting kit so they can try one hat before they buy out the whole yarn store.
Paint by Numbers
My family got me this paint by numbers kit for Christmas and I LOVED painting it! A colorful paint-by-numbers kit is an amazing gift that is not only fun to complete but leaves the painter with a gorgeous finished project they will be proud to hang. This is low-stakes art that comes with everything you need from start to finish.
Bead Kits for Kids or Adults
Making friendship bracelets is a really hot pastime right now and this kit has literally everything in it to make A LOT. Our girls have it and love it. Clay beads, charms, letter beads, and more provide plenty of options for creative jewelry makers of all ages! And the amounts are generous so it lasts for a long time.
Watercolor Pens
Give your color lovers these beautiful watercolor pens. Watercolor pens are ideal for creating beautiful sketches or paintings without the mess of traditional watercolors. Throw in a pack of nice watercolor paper or a fancy coloring book and you have the perfect gift!
Personalized Labels
For people who take the time to create items for people they love, having a personalized label to add is such a thoughtful touch. These simple fabric labels can be added to knitted, crocheted or sewn items. Then everyone will know who made their beautiful piece with love!
Customizable Letter Board
Give your crafter a felt letterboard! I love to change ours up with inspirational and funny quotes. This gift is even better if you can occasionally sneak in and leave them a message to keep them motivated, especially if they are working on a new project!
Marbeling Clay Kit
Crafty people LOVE making beautiful things. Send them an easy-to-use kit for creating colorful pottery without having to sign up for a ceramics class! The finished products are fun little trinket dishes that look straight out of Anthro.
Rolling Cart for Supplies
There is a reason these have become so popular in the last few years…a rolling cart is a crafter's essential! It can be used for holding supplies, books, or even as a piece of studio furniture. They are multifunctional and come in all different colors and shapes, so finding the perfect one for your artist or crafter is easy.
Furniture Restoration Guide
There is an art to giving old furniture a new life, and Amy Howard is one of the greatest! This book is a master class in how to do many of her techniques and includes her recipes, tips and tricks to make a piece gorgeous.
Scissors Bangle Bracelet
Have a scrapbooker, collage artist or quilter in your life (or anyone who spends a lot of time with their scissors making magic!)? They will love this fun bangle! It comes in various finishes and is adjustable.
Crochet Kit
Crochet kits are a fun way to learn a new skill for kids and adults. These come with everything they need to make a little friend and might just get them hooked on a new hobby!
Makers Gonna Make Tee
Crafters' t-shirts are a fun and practical gift for anyone who loves being crafty! They are perfect for wearing while working on a project or attending an event and your maker will appreciate you giving them something that celebrates their passion!
Sketch Book
One of my twin girls loves to draw, sketch and paint. We gave her this very special sketchbook for Christmas last year and she looooooves it. An extra special sketchbook is always great for someone who loves drawing, doodling, jotting down their ideas, or creating any kind of art. This embroidered sketchbook is unique and stunning. It will undoubtedly be treasured by anyone you gift it to.
Glitter Mug
Have a crafter with a love of glitter? This is the perfect funny and functional gift to make their day! Honestly, this is the only kind of sweating I enjoy!!!!
Pompom Makers
Everyone loves a pompom! This cool kit has tools that you use to create pompoms in four different sizes, depending on your project. They are simple enough for kids and they make the perfect pompom every time! We have this set of pompom makers and they work perfectly.

After we met in Portland, I figured I’d mosey on over to your blog and drop you a line. Thank goodness I did! Not only would I quite enjoy “all the things” on your crafty guide but I also just discovered the perfect gift for my husband here! Unfortunately the Home Screen Printing machine doesn’t ship to Canada and on Amazon.ca it’s literally double the price but Ive got a sneakin’ suspicion that my search is not over! I’m SO stoked, came by to say hi and got a heck of a lot more than I bargained for. Great night! Thanks Tasha :)
Oh yay! So glad to hear that Tenille! It was so fun meeting you and so many others in Portland!
Hi Tasha! I just LOVE getting your newsletter! It is honestly one of the few emails that I look forward to reading! It’s a treat I give myself?. The post about the Christmas balls was inspiring and I would love to see pictures of the multi colored balls if you have time to post! I’m struggling with finding time to work on my own blog, but because of you and Abby at just a girl, I haven’t given up! Great Christmas ideas too- there’s so much I want to buy now, lol!
Fabulous list! I’d gladly accept all of them!
Great list! Kits & books are always winners :)
Thank you Sagan!
Oh, yes on the self-healing cutting mat. Those things are the best. They made life so much easier all through art school.
Great gift ideas! Thank you for sharing with us at Snickerdoodle Sunday. Pinning to share!
Happy to have them all. I’d just add a rotary cutter to that cutting mat, finally started using one (though I bought it like 12 years ago, really!) and once you get the hang of it they are so great, much easier for lots of things than my buddy the xacto knife and for fabric, a dream. Oh, and a gridded quilter’s ruler to go with that, another really invaluable thing that is great for paper crafting too.
thanks for sharing on craft schooling Sunday!
Great additions! You are right, I love my rotary cutter–can’t believe I didn’t think of that!
