Inspiring Front Porch Christmas Decorations & Tips

Last Updated on May 1, 2025

I used to be completely overwhelmed by the thought of decorating the outside of our house for Christmas. In fact, though we've been homeowners for 20 years, this is the very first year we've added exterior Christmas decor. And now I totally regret not doing it sooner! I can't get over how easy it was to add front porch Christmas decorations and how much they totally elevate the curb appeal of our house for Christmas!

If you feel overwhelmed by the thought of decorating your front porch for Christmas or you just haven't found any ideas that really inspire you, this is the post for you. I'm sharing some of my favorite front porch Christmas decoration ideas with you. You can do this!

A brown-brick house's front porch Christmas decorations include wall-mounted black planters with colorful mini bottle brush evergreen trees, with larger ones on the rug. Green wreaths are hung on the doors and two large planters with mini evergreen trees are on either side of the double doors.

Front Porch Decoration Ideas & Tips

Tip #1- Add color & texture for BIG impact

First up, let's take a look at my own front porch all decked out for Christmas. All I did was hang these preserved boxwood wreaths on our front door, add this gorgeous Coco Handwoven Indoor/Outdoor Custom Rug for color and texture, add faux Norfolk pine trees to the planters and set out a bunch of big, colorful bottle brush trees. It took less than 30 minutes. But the variety of color and textures makes a HUGE impact against our otherwise neutral house.

This front porch from Dimples & Tangles is another fun example of bringing lots of texture and color in through your front porch Christmas decorations. So fun and happy!

Tip #2: Layer your wreaths to make them look larger

I LOVE how Brooke of Nesting With Grace layered those brass leaf wreaths on top of fresh green wreaths + added ribbon to create LARGE wreaths that pack a big punch.

Tip #3: Include garland and lights

When in doubt, you can never go wrong with adding garland and lights around your front door. It's simple but very effective! I love how Ashley of Modern Glam added her own twist to this classic combination.

Chelsea at TwoTwenty-One does a beautiful job with her garland and lights. She layers several strands of lights with two strands of garland to get a spectacular glow.

I love everything about this front porch design by Annie Selke, including those fun oversized inflatable ornaments. Again, talk about a big impact!

Tip #5: Make it all about the greenery

If you prefer a more neutral vibe for your front porch decorations, make it all about the greenery like Lucy at Craftberry Bush did. I love how she used several different types of greenery and layered them to ensure this monochromatic look is anything but boring. It's absolutely GORGEOUS!

Craftberry Bush front porch Christmas decorations use greenery to create a festive atmosphere, like bushy garlands around the entry, large wreaths on the doors, and mini evergreen trees on either side of the dog sitting on the top step.
