Decorating Tips

Hello friends!  Oh my goodness, have we been busy lately?!  As you know, we recently finished our DIY staircase makeover, which we are SO IN LOVE WITH!  But you may not remember that we have also been working on our dining room makeover…for a while.  I wrote about our plans for our dining room makeover and posted our inspirational mood board for it back at the end of… cough… April.  What can I say, we have a lot going on around here so sometimes things take a long time to complete!

We are FINALLY making loads of progress in the dining room.  Now, let me remind you what the room looked like before we got started.

As I confessed in the post about our dining room plans, the yellow color I picked for the walls, though lovely, was a HUGE mistake.  And I never did get around to painting the vomit colored trim white {you can read more about our trim problems here}. Vomit and yellow do NOT go well together.  And I STRONGLY DISLIKED the light fixture {I was taught not to use the word hate, though it is tempting in the case of that chandelier}.  Anyway, the photos you see above are what our dining room has looked like for the last 20 months or so.  Not good.  Below is what the room looked like all emptied out and ready for new paint.

The most dramatic change in the room has come from the fresh paint!  We painted the room Opal White by Clark+Kensington in eggshell finish.  I have NEVER painted a room such a neural color before, and I am LOVING IT.  Who knew?!  Opal White is a beautiful neutral, but it is not a true white–you can tell when you compare it to the white trim.  It has a beautiful green/gray undertone.  It is really stunning.

Speaking of the trim, YES, I finally got around to painting over the vomit beige color with a crisp white.  What a difference?!

We also made our own DIY curtain rod out of galvanized pipe that we picked up at our local Ace Hardware, which looks amazing and it was so much less expensive than a substantial curtain rod, especially considering we needed a 10 foot length.  Here is a sneak peek of how the curtain rods and the curtains that I made for the dining room turned out :)  I'm IN LOVE.

We also have another pipe project in the room, but I won't spill all the details just yet.  Here is another sneak peek for you.

And YES, we finally took down the old chandelier and hung this awesome new light, which is a DIY project that I cannot wait to blog about!

You can just glimpse one of the art pieces we added to the room in the background.  That frame you see is another DIY project–we made it from our old, ugly privacy fence and added some cool hardware to it for some flair.

And I cannot leave without giving you a glimpse of the gorgeous rug, which we got from Rugs USA–you can find it here!

What do you think?  We are so happy with the progress so far and there will be so much more to show you!  The BIG REVEAL will be coming in a few weeks!  Stay tuned!  In the meantime, please let me know what your favorite part is so far.
